A wooden boatbuilding school in the heart of the Rockies

Building wooden boats has a long tradition in the Rocky Mountains. We aim to continue that legacy.

Our mission is to advance the crafts of wooden boat construction, restoration, maintenance, and enjoyment through research, public outreach, and education.

We continue the work of those who have gone before.

Grand Lake, Colorado, has a history with wooden boats dating back to the earliest days of the 20th Century.  The mission of the Rocky Mountain Wooden Boat School is to ensure that this tradition is continued through the promotion and preservation of the classic boats that still enjoy its waters.

We invite you to come join us.

The school's focus is to educate young and old alike to develop the skills required to build and restore beautiful, wooden boats.  Classes will be held year-round with a particular focus on providing internship opportunities for high school and post-high school young adults interested in a career in the marine field.

“At the ancient portal

‘Tween the forest and the shore

Tis the common boatwright

That firmly holds the door.”

-M.A. Riner
